According to the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact info a domain is registered with must be valid and accurate at all times. At the same time, this information is openly visible on WHOIS websites and while this may be okay for organizations, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since everyone can view their names and their personal home and email addresses, especially in an age when identity fraud is not that infrequent. This is why registrar companies have launched a service that hides the details of their clients without altering them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is enabled, people will see the details of the registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they do a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it is still impossible to hide your personal details with some country-code extensions.

Whois Privacy Protection in Hosting

If you get a hosting package from us, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains in case their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain and add Whois Privacy Protection during the registration process or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any moment later through the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is extremely easy – once you sign in, you will need to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domains that you’ve registered through us. For each of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” logo, which will inform you if the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can turn off the service if it is currently enabled.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you want to hide the contact information for your domain and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you’ll be able to enable our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the account order process or at any time later via your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is optional and can be activated with a few clicks from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domain names that you’ve registered with us will be displayed alphabetically. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of the domain name extensions that support this service by simply clicking the “Whois Privacy Protection” logo to the right of each domain. In the same fashion, you can also renew the service or shut it off – in case you want to transfer a domain to some other registrar company and you need the real email associated with the domain to be visible.
