Transferring an active domain involves switching the domain name registrar that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer, you will have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS resource record modifications through the new domain name registrar. The transfer process is standard with most domain extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain involves a few basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The lock is a security option, which is being embraced by more and more registry operators. It is a default feature supported by all generic Top-Level Domains. If a domain is locked, it won’t be possible to start a transfer procedure, so no one can even try to take your domain name. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered and all new domains that support this functionality are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Hosting

If you buy a hosting from our company, you will be able to administer all domains registered through us using our Hepsia Control Panel and you will be able to unlock any of them with only a few clicks of the mouse. All registrations will be listed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the hosting Control Panel and for each one of them you’ll notice a mini padlock symbol. Clicking on it will show you the present security lock status. If the domain is locked and you wish to transfer it, you’ll just need to click once more and you’ll be all set. Locking a domain is just as easy and since the domain names are administered in the same location as the hosting account itself, you won’t need to sign in and out of different systems.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have registered a domain name through us and you want to transfer it away, you can quickly unlock it through the exact same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to administer your semi-dedicated server account. All domain name registrations will be displayed alphabetically in your account and you’ll notice a tiny padlock icon on the right side of each domain name there, as long as its generic or country-code extension supports the registrar lock feature. You can see whether the domain name is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the current status by clicking on it once again. You can then continue and initiate the transfer process straight away without waiting for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup sites, as the change will propagate momentarily without you or us having to do anything else.
